Breathing with a Chance of Paranoia

One week had passed since the tragic events that struck Annabeth’s new residence. She didn’t personally know Mr. Evans nor had she ever had a conversation with that lasted more than a few seconds. However, she still felt impacted by his death, the whole town seemed to actually. It was like the sun had gone away, taking any sense of normality with. What replaced the sun was a giant storm cloud that refused to leave. Everyone seemed different, even to Annabeth, who hardly knew anyone, she could tell the town was emitting a different vibe. And she did not like it one bit.

Annabeth was at work when she heard of the upcoming event. At first, she thought it was a ridiculous idea, the people in this town wouldn’t go to a concert only a week after someone was murder. Much less the concert of someone no one knew. Annabeth was wrong, a rare occurrence. The sun was slowly coming back with the storm cloud retreating as people began leaving their houses in excitement for Conrad’s concert.

Walking home from work on the day of the concert, Annabeth found herself frequency checking her surroundings. The person who killed Mr. Evans was still out there, which frightened Annabeth. Also, Lamar constantly poking around made her feel uneasy. She began to wonder who was murder, it really could be anyone. The bartender, Jose, who Annabeth always sees being practically stalked by all the single women in their mid-40s. The women the people call “Crazy Ester.” It could even be the very high strung women, Suzy, who, every time Annabeth sees her, is carrying a cup of expensive looking coffee. It really could be anyone, with that thought Annabeth tucked a strand of her barely shoulder length, black hair behind her ear and walked a little faster.

Although she was against the idea of the concert originally, Annabeth ended up attending the concert. She needed something to lift her mood and hopefully, the rest of the town as well because something has been happening as of late. She hoped that this concert would fully remove the storm cloud that had gripped the town so hard almost no one could breathe.

What she had hoped was right. After the concert, the town let go a large breath. One it had been holding since the death of Mr. Evans.

Thoughts with a Chance of Anxiety

Annabeth was getting ready for bed when the sun went down and the snowstorm began. She knew as soon as the first few snowflakes began to fall that it was going to be a big storm. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be able to leave her apartment for a decent amount of time. Which was fine with her. She needed her time away from work, too much was going on. Having the autopsy file was proving to be too much responsibility for Annabeth. She thought about it obsessively. So much time had passed since Mr. Evans had been murdered and the murder was still at large. It made Annabeth nervous. As a blanket of snow covered the town outside, Annabeth thought back to when she suspected Lamar for the murder because of how off-putting he was. She laughed to herself, she now knew this to be incorrect. She thought back to when she first saw the autopsy and the cause of death, a puncture wound to the abdomen. The image of the autopsy stuck so firmly in her mind, she didn’t think she would forget a thing ab...

Thoughts with a Chance of Wishing

The news of the excitement that would come that night first came to Annabeth at work. At work where she still glanced at the autopsy of Mr. Evans wondering what was going to happen now that the police had more information about his death. Pondering the next moves of her new police officer friend, Linh, Annabeth was startled by the sound of someone entering her office. It was one of the fellow nurses, informing her about the shooting star that would across over the town. The gears inside Annabeth’s head began to spin. What should she wish for? Was there anything she wanted enough to wish upon a star? As Annabeth racked her brain, she could sense that everyone in the town was doing the same thing as her. Trying to find the best wish for the situation. One half of Annabeth wanted to wish for something material, like new shoes or a raise at work. But the other half knew there was something more sentimental she could wish for. The sentimental half won. Peering out her window, Annabet...

Rain with a Chance of Sadness

The day started with the sound of pouring rain on the window. Annabeth clumsily made her way to her window, still half asleep she peered out of her window only to seen nothing. She squinted her eyes trying to get a better look at the world outside her apartment. Still, she couldn’t see a thing, it was raining too hard. This was one of the things Annabeth needed to get used too, the constant rain. She had just moved from the sunny place that was always filled with bright colors to a rainy town that was never any color but gray. Annabeth turned the doorknob, it hit the tile floors with the loud clanging sound. Annabeth jumped and sighed under her breath. Every time she tried to leave her apartment, the doorknob fell off. She was mad at herself for still getting startled, she had been living here for two months now, she should be used to it. She hastily put the doorknob back into place and left her apartment. In the back of her head, she reminded herself to find the maintenance man,...
