Thoughts with a Chance of Wishing

The news of the excitement that would come that night first came to Annabeth at work. At work where she still glanced at the autopsy of Mr. Evans wondering what was going to happen now that the police had more information about his death. Pondering the next moves of her new police officer friend, Linh, Annabeth was startled by the sound of someone entering her office. It was one of the fellow nurses, informing her about the shooting star that would across over the town.

The gears inside Annabeth’s head began to spin. What should she wish for? Was there anything she wanted enough to wish upon a star? As Annabeth racked her brain, she could sense that everyone in the town was doing the same thing as her. Trying to find the best wish for the situation. One half of Annabeth wanted to wish for something material, like new shoes or a raise at work. But the other half knew there was something more sentimental she could wish for.

The sentimental half won.

Peering out her window, Annabeth almost missed it. The bright light that shot across the sky. It came as fast, if you blinked at the wrong time, you would have missed it. The brief flash that illuminated her apartment had brought out her inner child in. Every kid wishes on shooting stars, but Annabeth never got the chance. So she took it now and wished for what she decided to do before.

As the bright shooting star flew across the sky, Annabeth wished for everything in the town to return to normal. She wasn’t quite sure how that would happen, she really just wanted everyone to be happy. Deep down, she knew that the only way for this town to return to normal was if Mr. Evans’ murder was caught. It would eliminate the anxiety people faced in the street when they walked alone at night. It would also bring a sense of tranquillity as the person who had done something terrible would have been caught.

Thoughts with a Chance of Anxiety

Annabeth was getting ready for bed when the sun went down and the snowstorm began. She knew as soon as the first few snowflakes began to fall that it was going to be a big storm. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be able to leave her apartment for a decent amount of time. Which was fine with her. She needed her time away from work, too much was going on. Having the autopsy file was proving to be too much responsibility for Annabeth. She thought about it obsessively. So much time had passed since Mr. Evans had been murdered and the murder was still at large. It made Annabeth nervous. As a blanket of snow covered the town outside, Annabeth thought back to when she suspected Lamar for the murder because of how off-putting he was. She laughed to herself, she now knew this to be incorrect. She thought back to when she first saw the autopsy and the cause of death, a puncture wound to the abdomen. The image of the autopsy stuck so firmly in her mind, she didn’t think she would forget a thing ab...

Disappointment with a Chance of Shock

Lamar’s meet up was a bust. Nobody really knew anything, Annabeth was disappointed. She was hoping for more details about Mr. Evans but she got nothing. Her suspicions about Lamar were now just a fleeting thought. At the diner, Lamar looked as frustrated as Annabeth felt now. It was clear to her now that Lamar was not the killer and he just wanted to catch the killer. The disappointment Annabeth felt was a brief feeling. It was mulled over before she fell asleep that night but was gone the next day. It wasn’t until she walked into work that she was reminded of everything and Mr. Evans. There sitting in her office was one of the police officers, Annabeth thought her name was Linh, maybe. She wasn’t quite sure, like her the officer was new to this town. “Good Morning, Nurse Willis,” the officer said to Annabeth as she entered her office. “Good Morning,” Annabeth paused not wanting to get her name wrong. “Officer…” “Officer Luong,” the officer finished for Annabeth. “But ple...
