Disappointment with a Chance of Shock

Lamar’s meet up was a bust. Nobody really knew anything, Annabeth was disappointed. She was hoping for more details about Mr. Evans but she got nothing. Her suspicions about Lamar were now just a fleeting thought. At the diner, Lamar looked as frustrated as Annabeth felt now. It was clear to her now that Lamar was not the killer and he just wanted to catch the killer.

The disappointment Annabeth felt was a brief feeling. It was mulled over before she fell asleep that night but was gone the next day. It wasn’t until she walked into work that she was reminded of everything and Mr. Evans.

There sitting in her office was one of the police officers, Annabeth thought her name was Linh, maybe. She wasn’t quite sure, like her the officer was new to this town.

“Good Morning, Nurse Willis,” the officer said to Annabeth as she entered her office.

“Good Morning,” Annabeth paused not wanting to get her name wrong. “Officer…”

“Officer Luong,” the officer finished for Annabeth. “But please call me Linh.”

“Linh,” Annabeth repeated back to her, nodding her head. “Well then call me Annabeth.”

“Alright Annabeth, I’m here on behalf of my precinct.” Linh started. “You see I’ve been assigned to the death of Mr. Evan.” Annabeth held her breath for a second, she knew what was coming. Linh wanted to see the autopsy, something that hadn’t been looked at in depth by Annabeth yet. “If I could I would like to look at the rest of Mr. Evans' autopsy please.”

“Oh of course,” Annabeth said scrambling to find the file on her desk. “If you could give me a second to review the details, I haven’t looked at it in a while.” Linh nodded her head.

It was only a few moments later that Annabeth read something that shocked her, she had known the cause of death and the approximate time of death but this was new. It was enough to make Annabeth gasp causes Linh to look up from her lap.

“What is it?” Linh asked sounded concerned and excited at the same time. Annabeth turned the file toward Linh showing her what she just saw. It was a picture of Mr. Evans’ body, especially his back. It was covered in long, thin, white scars. Linh looked at the picture and then back at Annabeth, both women were equally as shocked.

Mr. Evans was just a sweet old man, Annabeth read the description underneath the picture. “Scars on the back mostly occurred between 50 years and 60 years ago.”

Thoughts with a Chance of Anxiety

Annabeth was getting ready for bed when the sun went down and the snowstorm began. She knew as soon as the first few snowflakes began to fall that it was going to be a big storm. She had a feeling she wouldn’t be able to leave her apartment for a decent amount of time. Which was fine with her. She needed her time away from work, too much was going on. Having the autopsy file was proving to be too much responsibility for Annabeth. She thought about it obsessively. So much time had passed since Mr. Evans had been murdered and the murder was still at large. It made Annabeth nervous. As a blanket of snow covered the town outside, Annabeth thought back to when she suspected Lamar for the murder because of how off-putting he was. She laughed to herself, she now knew this to be incorrect. She thought back to when she first saw the autopsy and the cause of death, a puncture wound to the abdomen. The image of the autopsy stuck so firmly in her mind, she didn’t think she would forget a thing ab...

Thoughts with a Chance of Wishing

The news of the excitement that would come that night first came to Annabeth at work. At work where she still glanced at the autopsy of Mr. Evans wondering what was going to happen now that the police had more information about his death. Pondering the next moves of her new police officer friend, Linh, Annabeth was startled by the sound of someone entering her office. It was one of the fellow nurses, informing her about the shooting star that would across over the town. The gears inside Annabeth’s head began to spin. What should she wish for? Was there anything she wanted enough to wish upon a star? As Annabeth racked her brain, she could sense that everyone in the town was doing the same thing as her. Trying to find the best wish for the situation. One half of Annabeth wanted to wish for something material, like new shoes or a raise at work. But the other half knew there was something more sentimental she could wish for. The sentimental half won. Peering out her window, Annabet...

Rain with a Chance of Sadness

The day started with the sound of pouring rain on the window. Annabeth clumsily made her way to her window, still half asleep she peered out of her window only to seen nothing. She squinted her eyes trying to get a better look at the world outside her apartment. Still, she couldn’t see a thing, it was raining too hard. This was one of the things Annabeth needed to get used too, the constant rain. She had just moved from the sunny place that was always filled with bright colors to a rainy town that was never any color but gray. Annabeth turned the doorknob, it hit the tile floors with the loud clanging sound. Annabeth jumped and sighed under her breath. Every time she tried to leave her apartment, the doorknob fell off. She was mad at herself for still getting startled, she had been living here for two months now, she should be used to it. She hastily put the doorknob back into place and left her apartment. In the back of her head, she reminded herself to find the maintenance man,...
